Chelsea lost to Everton 2-0, their sixth Premier League loss of the year, after yet another lackluster showing.

Chelsea expected to win at Goodison Park after losing to Manchester United in the middle of the week, but instead of winning, Mauricio Pochettino’s team put on another lackluster performance.

Despite having the better of the play throughout the afternoon, the Blues were unable to generate clear-cut opportunities when they got close to the Everton penalty area.

Jordan Pickford was forced to make two excellent saves by Cole Palmer from long range just before halftime. However, it was the home team that broke the tie when Abdoulaye Doucoure tapped home after Robert Sanchez had made a great save from Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

The goal, a breakaway through the middle, revealed Chelsea’s vulnerability, a problem that has dogged them all season. Chelsea’s problems were exacerbated by yet another injury to captain Reece James and No. 1 goalie Sanchez.

Lewis Dobbin’s late goal condemned Pochettino’s team to their sixth league loss of the season, as they were unable to answer in the next 35 minutes.

Robert Sanchez, Goalkeeper & Defense (7/10):

had nothing to do in the first half, but early in the second half, produced an incredible save to block McNeil’s weak attempt. It’s unfortunate to give up after making such a strong halt. Chelsea will now be worried about his fitness even though he is unconvincing when handling set pieces.

Reece James (5 out of 10):

The defender for England is simply unlucky. A suspected hamstring injury forced the 24-year-old to be replaced in the first half of the match, less than two months after he made a comeback from a similar problem. It could be time for another extended period of rest.

Axel Disasi (score of 6/10):

didn’t actually step on any toes, but he and Badiashile were too readily dissected to accomplish Doucoure’s objective.

Badiashile Benoit (6/10):

Similar to Disasi, he didn’t contribute anything, yet the Chelsea defense was still broken twice.

Marc Cucurella: (Score: 6)

The Spaniard didn’t exactly raise the bar, but it was one of his more easy Chelsea appearances. In possession, tidy, and one chance generated.

Midfield

Enzo Fernandez (5/10):

Made promising forays forward but lacked accuracy with shots and passes in the final third.

Moises Caicedo (5/10):

By passed by breakaways a couple of times. The Ecuadorian is struggling to dominate midfield like he did for Brighton.

Conor Gallagher (6/10):

Created a couple of chances and was tidy in possession. Weak attempt to halt Everton’s breakaway that led to Doucoure’s goal.

Colle Palmer (6/10) is attacked.

Usually intelligent and progressive. made Pickford stop twice in the first half: once with a powerful long-range shot and again with a free kick in the second half.

Broja Armando (4/10):

Though the 22-year-old was quiet in his third league start of the season and may now find his opportunities limited once more, this was a nice opportunity to capitalize on Raheem Sterling and Nicolas Jackson’s troubles.

Mudryk Mykhailo (6/10):

The Ukrainian was Chelsea’s primary offensive threat and turned in a better performance than he showed over the week, but he was unable to convert several good situations into anything.

Manager Levi Colwill and the Subs (6/10):

took James’ place halfway through the second half and handled the challenging situation really effectively.

Sterling Raheem (4/10):

continued despite Chelsea’s desperate need for a goal, but with limited penetration.

Nicolas Jackson (grade of 10):

threatened right away, but the conclusion lacked conviction. made more of a commotion when, following the final whistle, he got into a fight.

Petrovic Djordje (3/10):

came on late to replace the injured Sanchez. After a poor punch, Dobbin scored.

Ian Maatsen (n/a):

The defender, who hasn’t started a league game this year, should get a few more minutes.

Mauricio Pochettino (5/10):

Chelsea weren’t exactly bad, but Pochettino had a a few inspiring options on the bench to inject more creativity into his side. brought Sterling and Jackson on in good time but they let him down.
