Emma Raducanu receives advice from Serena Williams’ former coach on how to reach her greatest potential.

Emma Raducanu, according to her former coach Patrick Mouratoglou of Serena Williams, needs to establish “stability” in her comeback to tennis or else it’s unlikely that she will ever reach her full potential. Raducanu, who turned 21 this month, had the best start to her career—she won the US Open when she was just 18 years old.

However, Raducanu hasn’t taken home any trophies since then since she has primarily struggled with ailments, which have had a detrimental effect on her form and performance. Since the US Open in 2021, Raducanu has also worked with four different coaches. Raducanu, who had three surgeries in May, is expected to make a comeback at the beginning of the 2024 season, although she has not yet disclosed the identity of her coach.

“I am aware of Raducanu’s impending return, which is fantastic news for tennis in Britain. She has had a lot of setbacks in her tennis career, both in terms of results and subsequent injuries. However, I’m hoping she can find some stability in her life because without it, it would be unfortunate if she couldn’t reach her full potential.

“I know that Raducanu will soon be returning, which is great news for British tennis.” Throughout her tennis career, she has experienced numerous disappointments, both in terms of outcomes and ensuing injuries. It would be awful if she couldn’t realize her full potential without stability, therefore I’m hopeful she can find some in her life.

Mouratoglou about whether or not to mentor Raducanu

In addition to his renowned ten years of collaboration with Williams, Mouratoglou has recently worked with Stefanos Tsitsipas, Simona Halep, and Holger Rune.

Many people rank Mouratoglou as one of the greatest in the coaching field, while some people think Raducanu needs a superstar coach. In response to a question about whether he would be willing to collaborate with Raducanu, Mouratoglou said he isn’t sure yet but that he might be if the British woman assured him she would trust his guidance.

“I’m not sure. Is she ready to trust someone, is that all I can say, not that I’ve given it much thought? Is she able to put her trust in a project and stick with it long enough to make the kind of true development that will allow her to reach her full potential? All those changes really damaged her because, as Mouratoglou pointed out, “it doesn’t make sense to change your tennis project every three months.”
