Max Verstappen talks about getting married to his girlfriend.
Max Verstappen has shared insights into his connection with Kelly Piquet and addressed the possibility of a proposal.
Max Verstappen has chosen not to disclose whether he has contemplated proposing to his long-term girlfriend, Kelly Piquet, with whom he went public in early 2021. Piquet, the daughter of three-time Formula 1 World Champion Nelson Piquet, is frequently seen in the paddock supporting her partner, with whom she also shares a residence.
Verstappen and Piquet reside together in Monaco, along with Piquet’s daughter, Penelope. Interestingly, Penelope’s father is former F1 driver Daniil Kvyat, whom Verstappen replaced at Red Bull during the 2016 Spanish Grand Prix. Verstappen shares a strong bond with Penelope, often featuring in his Twitch streams while he races in his simulator.
While Verstappen and Piquet share a close relationship, marriage does not seem to be at the forefront of his thoughts. Pressed on the prospect of a future wedding, the 26-year-old humorously responded to Blick, saying, “Marry? Me? Now you’ve publicly pressured me into saying a date.” He added, “I don’t know, time will tell. Right now, I’m very, very happy with Kelly. But personally I don’t have a schedule for when I’m going to get down on one knee in front of her. It’s all supposed to happen spontaneously.”
Verstappen declined to comment on whether he envisions proposing to Piquet while still competing in F1. Under contract until the end of 2028, he would be at least 31 years old if he chose to propose after concluding his F1 career. He also did not reveal if he plans to wait until after his F1 career before proposing, stating that it will happen when they “feel like” it. “As I said, I don’t know,” Verstappen insisted. “The right day will come when we feel like we are stamping our relationship on paper as well.”
Given the demanding F1 calendar, finding time for a proposal amid the sport’s longest season in 2024 could be a challenge for Verstappen.
