Fixing a fight? A betting watchdog is apparently looking into Jake Paul’s undercard.
In this episode of Crime Desk, a significant allegation is made concerning an incident during the Jake Paul undercard fight.
On December 15th, Jake Paul knocked out Andre August with a highly anticipated uppercut at a small venue in Orlando, FL. Speculations arose online, suggesting that the fight might have been fixed, and that Paul’s selected opponent deliberately took a dive. However, these claims seem unfounded when considering the significant skill gap between August, a journeyman boxer out of practice, and Paul, who has dedicated himself to the sport in recent years, facing genuine athletes.
Nonetheless, according to Garett Kerman from The Sports Daily, U.S. Integrity is investigating a different bout on the Paul vs. August card. Kerman alleges suspicious betting activity in the Yoenis Tellez vs. Livan Navarro fight, which occurred before the co-main event featuring Shadasia Green vs. Francon Crews-Dezurn.
Kerman asserts that there was an “influx of six-figure wagers” on the fight lasting over five and a half rounds, despite Tellez never having fought beyond the fourth round in his undefeated career. During the December 15 event, Tellez knocked down Navarro in the third round but couldn’t secure a finish, ultimately winning via TKO in the 10th round.
Kerman suggests that it is believed “one of the bettors (on the over 5.5 rounds prop bet) was a part of the corner team” for either Tellez or Navarro. U.S. Integrity was reportedly alerted to the fight and is currently conducting an investigation. Importantly, Jake Paul and anyone associated with him are not suspected of any wrongdoing in this matter.
