Usman Khawaja has made an effort to increase public awareness of the deaths resulting from the Israel-Gaza conflict.
Usman Khawaja has prepared an official request for permission to continue drawing attention to human rights issues in the Israel-Gaza conflict to Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council.
Speaking anonymously so that they could freely discuss the situation, sources close to CA claimed that Khawaja had previously submitted an application to the relevant authorities requesting permission to disseminate his message during the MCG’s Boxing Day test.
In order to continue drawing attention to human rights issues in the Israel-Gaza conflict, Usman Khawaja has drafted an official application to be submitted to Cricket Australia and the International Cricket Council.
According to sources close to CA who talked openly about the situation under the condition of anonymity, Khawaja had previously submitted an application to the relevant authorities requesting permission to deliver his message during the Boxing Day test at the MCG.
Should the ICC determine that Khawaja’s black armband was a political statement, they might punish him for wearing it during the first test against Pakistan in Perth without getting approval from the CA or the ICC.
The MCG and SCG, which will host the second and third tests against Pakistan from Boxing Day and early in the the New Year, confirmed to this masthead that they would adhere to the policy. It will also apply to the West Indies tests in Adelaide and Brisbane during January.
