Release date for Man Utd is revealed, Andre Onana is in talks to postpone his AFCON call-up.
Andre Onana, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, will travel with Cameroon to the Africa Cup of Nations next month, but he intends to reunite with his teammates at a later time.
According to reports, Andre Onana is in negotiations with Cameroon to postpone his release for the Africa Cup of Nations, which takes place next month.
Shortly after arriving to England in a £47 million transfer from Inter Milan in the summer, the 27-year-old goalkeeper for Manchester United reversed his international retirement. It was anticipated that he will be included in Cameroon’s team for the tournament, which gets underway on January 13.
If Onana joins Cameroon for a pre-tournament warm-up camp in Saudi Arabia, he may miss four Premier League games as well as additional FA Cup games. Onana, though, wants to spend as little time away from Old Trafford as possible, therefore he’s asking for permission to rejoin his teammates a little later.
ESPN reports that Onana would like to play in the competition but would prefer to postpone his departure from Manchester United in order to play in the FA Cup third round match on January 8 against League One team Wigan Athletic.
Although Onana would be absent due to a friendly against Zambia on January 9, Cameroon’s AFCON campaign begins on January 15. The game against Nottingham Forest on Saturday will be his last before the competition if he is not allowed to play against Wigan.
Due to Onana’s absence, Altay Balindir, United’s current No. 2, is probably going to get the opportunity. Similar to Onana, the Turkish goalie relocated to Old Trafford during the summer but hasn’t played for his new team yet.
