Max Verstappen requests Red Bull make changes after the Formula One champions identify a 2024 weakness.

With the help of their RB19 car, Max Verstappen and Red Bull team smashed numerous F1 records in 2023, but the Dutchman was still able to identify shortcomings in their vehicle.

A top Red Bull chief has backed up Max Verstappen’s remark that his team must try to rectify weaknesses detected despite leading the 2023 championship.

In twenty-two races this year, Red Bull came up on top save one. Verstappen also broke a number of single-season records during this run of success, accounting for 19 of those wins.

Nevertheless, the Dutchman was not entirely content. Speaking to Motorsport.com, he identified where his team can improve heading into 2024 having noticed some deficiencies while driving the all-conquering RB19.

“Basically, I believe it’s just street circuits and low-speed kerbing,” he responded when asked if his equipment might be improved. “These kind of things, I think we are not the best at the moment.”

Verstappen and Pierre Wache, the technical director, concur that those ought to be the main areas of attention. “The team sees that same weakness, maybe from a different angle than Max because he’s a driver], but it’s pretty well summarized where we need to improve for next year,” he stated.

“Clearly, [one section] is low speed. We are not the best at 90-degree turns, as you were able to observe in Baku qualifying and on another circuit [type there]. Singapore was not a great one either. Additionally, we need to get better at riding the kerbs and uneven tracks because we are not yet proficient in this area.

You never get anything for free in our system or in this business. You can increase something’s potential overall, but most of the time doing so will also impact another part of the car.

As a result, we must exercise extreme caution to avoid destroying the abilities that we have developed. Our goal is to strengthen our areas of weakness while maintaining as much of our strengths as possible.

Verstappen is certain that things won’t be quite as simple for him and his squad in 2024, despite how dominant they were this year.

“The others will upgrade their vehicles and approach us,” he declared. It isn’t very likely, in my opinion, to regain that win percentage. However, that’s alright. It’s crazy to have had a season like this already.

“The others aren’t ignorant. Everybody is picking up knowledge. Naturally, things will come closer the longer the restrictions remain the same,

As people begin to realize which way they need to go with their development. Fortunately, we got started with the regulations [in 2022] really successfully, but I anticipate that things will move in the right direction next year.

“As for which specific team, well, the entire season has been a little up and down for everyone save us, so I’m not really sure which one is going to take the largest leap in the winter. Naturally, we hope that they remain behind, but we’ll see in Bahrain.”
