Max Verstappen’s retirement and future in Formula One.
For the past three seasons, Red Bull CEO Christian Horner and driver Max Verstappen have dominated Formula 1, and he hopes the Dutchman will stay on to maintain his form.
Max Verstappen, the Dutchman who won 19 of the 22 races in 2023, had the most dominant season in Formula 1 history, and Red Bull CEO Christian Horner thinks the Dutchman can continue to rule the sport for “as long as he wants to.”
Red Bull completely controlled the 2023 season, as Verstappen won the title for the third time in a row. Red Bull achieved an incredible 22 Grands Prix victories thanks to his teammate Sergio Perez in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, but Verstappen ultimately outran the field.
With Red Bull securing almost 110 grand prix victories, 95 pole positions, 264 podiums, seven drivers’ championships, and six constructors’ championships, Horner is among the very few most successful team principals in Formula One history. However, the 50-year-old will look forward to more achievements with Verstappen in the future.
Over the past three seasons, the 26-year-old has been in incredible form, taking home the global title each year and amassing 43 victories from 66 races. His performance earned him a high-paying long-term deal that would keep him associated with Red Bull until 2028.
Horner is optimistic that Verstappen will stay on the grid for the foreseeable future, but Verstappen is evasive about his future, indicating he is unlikely to emulate competitor Lewis Hamilton, Kimi Raikkonen, or Fernando Alonso.
The introduction of the upcoming generation of power units in 2026 will mark the next milestone in Horner and Verstappen’s ascent to fame. Verstappen will aim to regain his dominance as the Milton Keynes-based outfit competes against Ferrari and Mercedes as manufacturers thanks to Red Bull Powertrains.
