Top 10 drivers ranked by F1 Team Principals for 2023

Following the 2023 season, whose driver on the Formula One grid does each of the ten Team Principals rank highest?

For the sixth consecutive season, Team Principals in Formula 1 have participated in a vote to determine the best drivers of the year on the grid.

In the survey conducted by F1.com, Team Principals from all 10 teams were asked to submit their top 10 drivers of the year anonymously.

The results were then compiled using the current F1 points system, where the top driver in each list received 25 points, descending to one point for the 10th. These individual rankings were combined to generate an overall ranking, as presented below.

TEAM PRINCIPALS DRIVER OF THE YEAR

Ranking Driver vs 2022
1 Max Verstappen
2 Fernando Alonso +6
3 Lando Norris +3
4 Charles Leclerc -2
5 Lewis Hamilton -1
6 Carlos Sainz +1
7 Oscar Piastri New Entry
8 Alex Albon New Entry
9 George Russell -6
10 Sergio Perez -5

Unsurprisingly, Max Verstappen claims the top spot for the third consecutive year, having dominated the season with 19 wins and 12 poles. He set multiple records on his way to a third world title, amassing 240 points out of a possible 250 and surpassing his 2022 points tally by 33 points.

Fernando Alonso secures the second position in the poll, marking a six-place improvement from the previous year, thanks to his impressive performances with Aston Martin.

Lando Norris takes the third spot after securing seven podiums during a mid-season resurgence for McLaren, moving up three places from the previous year.

George Russell experienced the most significant decline, dropping six places to ninth on the list. New entries include Oscar Piastri and Alex Albon, both acknowledged for their strong performances throughout the season.
