Airfare to Houston experiences a substantial surge in prices leading up to the CFP National Championship between Michigan and Washington.

Planning to witness Michigan face off against Washington in the College Football Playoff National Championship in Texas? Flights to Houston are in high demand, with some already sold out and the remaining tickets priced at thousands of dollars. The game between the Wolverines and the Huskies is scheduled for January 8 at NRG Stadium.

Currently, round-trip flights from Detroit Metro Airport to Houston are priced higher than the least expensive tickets to the game. Resale tickets, available in pairs on Ticketmaster, are being offered at $899.

Flights on major carriers such as Delta, American, Southwest, and United are all priced at $1,400 or more, with some seats reaching close to $4,000 for a Sunday departure and Tuesday return. Delta, in particular, does not offer seats for less than $2,500.

Spirit Airlines provides a more budget-friendly option with tickets under $400 as of Wednesday morning, but availability is limited due to the few remaining seats on each flight.

Securing a direct flight to Texas is also a challenge across all airlines. Only a handful of nonstop flights have available tickets, while most involve one or two layovers.

In response to the high demand for flights to NRG Stadium in Houston, Delta has announced the addition of nine flights and nearly 1,300 seats for football fans traveling from Detroit and Seattle. This includes a new route from Detroit Metro to Hobby Airport in Houston, supplementing the existing route from Detroit to George Bush Airport.

For those unable to make the trip to Houston, there are alternative options to watch the game from home.
