According to Kyrgios, Djokovic’s injury was caused by frequent ball changes.

Nick Kyrgios believes he knows why Novak Djokovic was injured at the 2024 United Cup.

Djokovic was defeated in straight sets by Australian No. 1 Alex de Minaur at the event. The 24-time Grand Slam champion had a wrist injury during the match but finished it.

This is the world No. 1’s second match in a row when he has met the issue. Djokovic also had a scare with his wrist in his earlier singles encounter at the United Cup against Jiri Lehecka of the Czech Republic.

Kyrgios has been out of the game for quite some time. Due to recurring injuries, the 2022 Wimbledon runner-up has only played one match in the last 12 months, a failed comeback attempt in Stuttgart in June.

However, the 28-year-old has kept active by sharing his thoughts on social media, and Kyrgios posted a tweet explaining why Djokovic developed a wrist injury.

This is not a new topic or complaint among ATP Tour players. Many others have raised concern about using different balls every week, claiming that forcing their bodies to adapt every week causes damage.

The world number one has not stated that the frequent shifting of balls caused his wrist injury.

However, Kyrgios’ idea is not unreasonable because other players have been unhappy as well, despite the fact that the 10-time Australian Open champion’s injury occurred at the start of the season.
