Canes defenseman Dmitry Orlov marked his return to Capital One Arena on Friday, facing his former team, the Capitals, who honored him with a tribute video showcasing his career highlights. The crowd responded with applause, and Orlov displayed genuine happiness, raising his stick, pumping his fist, and saluting the fans.
Orlov, drafted by Washington in 2009, played 686 games for the Capitals before being traded to Boston at last season’s trade deadline. He later signed with Carolina.
Reflecting on his time with the Capitals, he shared, “I spent 12 years with the organization and the city. I have a lot of good memories and I went through a lot of things there. It’s going to be emotional and special,” expressed Orlov to the Hurricanes media.
What a privilege it was seeing you turn into one of the Capital greats.
Here's to you, Orly. Welcome back!#ALLCAPS pic.twitter.com/1FVuvT6xUH
