Matteo Berrettini, dealing with an injury, withdraws from the Australian Open.
Matteo Berrettini, a former top-10 player, withdrew from the Australian Open on Sunday due to an injury, just before a highly anticipated first-round match against Greek star Stefanos Tsitsipas.
Matteo Berrettini, a semi-finalist in 2022, has pulled out of the Australian Open due to a foot problem, as confirmed by tournament organizers.
The ATP Tour expressed wishes for a swift recovery for Berrettini on the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter).
As a result of Berrettini’s withdrawal, the seventh-seeded Stefanos Tsitsipas, who reached the final last year, will now face Belgian lucky loser Zizou Bergs. Notably, Berrettini has been absent from competition since the US Open last year, where he retired from his second-round match due to an ankle injury.
