After being unexpectedly let go from the Wests Tigers, former recruitment manager Scott Fulton has finally spoken out about his departure. Fulton’s appointment at the Tigers had sparked controversy initially, as neither former coach Tim Sheens nor current coach Benji Marshall were consulted in the decision-making process.
Having been a longstanding off-field presence at the Manly Sea Eagles before joining the Tigers, Fulton was appointed under previous management. However, with changes in the club’s leadership, including the removal of Justin Pascoe and Lee Hagipantelis, uncertainty surrounded Fulton’s future before his departure was officially confirmed. Despite his significant role in bringing players like Latu Fainu and Samuela Fainu from Manly to the Tigers, tensions arose between Fulton and Benji Marshall over various decisions, including the signing of Aidan Sezer from the Super League.
“I’m disheartened because I held great optimism for the Wests Tigers and the path we were taking with recruitment,” shared Fulton with The Daily Telegraph.
“Despite the disappointment, I genuinely appreciated my tenure under the previous management and the accomplishments we made in a short span.
“In rugby league, these situations arise, and we’ll move forward, seeking the next opportunity. I extend my best wishes to the club,” he added.
Fulton’s exit marks the Wests Tigers’ second removal of a recruitment manager in under a year, following the dismissal of long-serving recruitment head Warren McDonnell, who subsequently joined the Manly Sea Eagles.
