Assistant coach Dejan Milojević of the Golden State Warriors passed away on Wednesday morning following a heart attack during a team dinner in Salt Lake City, as announced by the team. He was 46.

Expressing deep sorrow, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr shared in a Twitter statement, “In addition to being a terrific basketball coach, Dejan was one of the most positive and beautiful human beings I have ever known, someone who brought joy and light to every single day with his passion and energy.”

Milojević had joined the Warriors in 2021, primarily working with the team’s forwards and centers.

Before his stint with the Warriors, Milojević led KK Buducnost, a Montenegrin basketball club, to a league title and secured national cups in Serbia and Montenegro. Notably, he coached Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokić during his time at KK Mega Basket, a Serbian professional team.

A three-time MVP in the Adriatic Basketball Association, Milojević had a remarkable 14-year career as a player.

Due to the grieving period, the NBA has postponed the Warriors-Jazz game scheduled for Wednesday.

Milojević is survived by his wife Natasa and two children, Nikola and Masa.
