“San Francisco Giants Ink Jordan Hicks to a Four-Year, $44 Million Deal with Performance Bonuses: A Powerhouse Addition to the Rotation”
The San Francisco Giants and right-hander Jordan Hicks reached an agreement on a four-year, $44 million contract that includes innings-based performance awards that could raise the total to $52 million.
With a $2 million signing bonus, a $6 million salary this year, and $12 million in each of the next three seasons, the 27-year-old is expected to be a rotation player.
His earnings for innings pitched were as follows: $83,333 for 110, 120, and 130 innings; $166,667 for 140, 150, 160, and 170 innings; $333,333 for 180 and 190 innings; and $333,334 for 200 innings.
Hicks has agreed to donate $220,000 to the Giants Community Fund, with $40,000 going to the fund this year and $60,000 each of the next three years.
MLB Statcast reports that Hicks’ four-seam fastball averaged 100.3 mph in the previous season. Throughout his five major league seasons, he has mostly worked out of the bullpen, saving 32 games out of 44 opportunities. After making eight starts for St. Louis in 2022, he went 0-4 with a 5.47 ERA.
Hicks spent the previous season with St. Louis and Toronto, going 3-9 with a 3.29 ERA and 12 saves in 15 opportunities across 65 appearances and 65 2/3 innings.
San Francisco won the NL West in 2021 and set a franchise best with 107 games won, but has missed the playoffs the last two seasons.
Hicks was dealt to the Blue Jays on July 30 after playing with the Cardinals during his first four and a half big league seasons. It is his career ERA of 3.85.
After Detroit acquired right-hander Devin Sweet off waivers, San Francisco was able to add him to their roster.
