Police reports regarding the death of Michigan football QB who passed away tragically
On Tuesday, there was somber news as former Michigan football quarterback Ryan Mallett passed away. This marks a melancholic moment for both Michigan football enthusiasts and college football fans at large. Reports from various media outlets confirm the demise of the former Wolverines and Arkansas Razorbacks quarterback.
According to information from Deltaplex News, cited by 247 Sports, the cause of Mallett’s death seems to be drowning. The report stated that Mallett was taken to a Florida hospital from a beach and was later pronounced deceased at the medical facility.
Ryan Mallett had once been one of the most highly regarded recruits to join the Michigan football program, earning a five-star rating in the 2007 class. He held the fifth position in the 247 Sports composite rankings and was ranked as the second-best quarterback in his class.
After spending a season with Michigan football, primarily serving as a backup to Chad Henne, Mallett made the decision to transfer and eventually became the starting quarterback for Arkansas. Standing at 6 feet 6 inches, he left a lasting impact on the school, guiding the Razorbacks to their inaugural appearance in a bowl championship series bowl game. In 2020, the Arkansas Athletic Department paid tribute to Mallett, recognizing his contributions.
“Ryan Mallett stands as one of the standout players in Razorback history, although his collegiate journey didn’t commence with the Razorbacks initially. Despite showcasing his talent from a young age, it was Michigan that first recognized and secured Mallett’s commitment. However, with the retirement of the legendary Lloyd Carr, Mallett’s childhood aspiration of joining the Razorbacks started to materialize. Following a year on the sidelines due to transfer rules, it became evident that Ryan Mallett was an ideal fit for head coach Bobby Petrino. In 2010, Arkansas achieved its inaugural BCS bowl appearance under Mallett’s leadership, marking a significant milestone. Despite encountering ups and downs, along with missteps and misunderstandings, Mallett contributed some of the most memorable moments in Arkansas’ SEC history. His journey continued as he transitioned into an NFL starter and an eight-year league veteran.
During his time with Michigan football, Mallett completed 61 of 141 passes for 892 yards and seven touchdowns. His tenure with Arkansas saw him throw for 7,493 yards and 62 touchdowns. Notably, he was selected as a third-round pick by the New England Patriots. Mallett still holds the record for the longest touchdown pass in Michigan football history. Before his untimely death, Mallett had taken on the role of head football coach for a program in Arkansas.
Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to his loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”
