Star outfielder for the Houston Astros ranked higher than Fernando Tatis Jr. and Juan Soto.
MLB Network recognized a Houston Astros outfielder as one of the best three players at his position.
The collective efforts of the Houston Astros have been the key to their success in recent seasons. But for that success to occur, players must perform at a high level.
Of all the Astros players, Kyle Tucker has played at the highest caliber.
MLB Network ranked him as the second-best right fielder in baseball based on his performance.
The current unanimous National League MVP, Ronald Acuna Jr., edged out Tucker for the top slot. Juan Soto, Fernando Tatis, and Corbin Carroll, the current National League Rookie of the Year, were all behind left-hander Tucker at the finish line.
Even though Soto may be a stronger hitter, Tucker is perhaps the finest right fielder in baseball, so the Houston star was chosen over the Soto. He moved up two spots to be classified as the No. 4 right fielder going into the 2023 campaign.
Tucker slashed.284/.369/.517 and recorded a 5.4 WAR in the previous season. He hit 29 home runs and drove in 112 runs, which led the AL. He received back-to-back selections as an All-Star, something he hadn’t done in six seasons.
This year is more significant than ever for Tucker and the Astros as he prepares for the 2024 campaign. Houston’s only thought after falling to the Texas Rangers in the ALCS is returning to the World Series.
They stand a good chance of doing so if Tucker can produce another season with close to 30 home runs and an OPS+ of 142.
