The South Sydney Rabbitohs are pleased to confirm the contract extension of young hooker Peter Mamouzelos for an additional three seasons, ensuring his presence until the culmination of 2027. Peter Mamouzelos, identified as Rabbitohs first-grade player number 1170, marked his debut in round 14, 2021, against the Newcastle Knights at Stadium Australia. Notably, Mamouzelos played a pivotal role in the triumph of the Rabbitohs’ NSW Cup team in 2023. The team secured both the NSW Cup premiership, ending a 40-year drought, and the NRL State Championship by defeating the Brisbane Tigers on NRL Grand Final day.

Hailing from the Maroubra Lions club and a product of South Sydney’s junior development, Mamouzelos has consistently represented the Greek international squad. Over the past six years, he participated in ten Test matches for Greece, including the Rugby League World Cup in 2022.

Expressing his joy about extending his time with the Rabbitohs, Mamouzelos stated, “I’m really excited to be extending my time with this club. I told my manager I didn’t want to go anywhere else. I’ve grown up here in the South Sydney area; it’s always been my team, and I love this club. When I spoke to him and he said we’re staying here, I was ecstatic!”

“We have the best members and fans in the competition, and it’s an honor to play for them each week.

“My family has made so many sacrifices for me to get to where I am, and I can’t thank them enough.

I want to express my gratitude to Ello (Mark Ellison), JD (Jason Demetriou), and all the coaches for believing in me.

I also want to thank the players for contributing to my game development. I believe we have the best playing group in the league, and I’m confident that we have what it takes to win the competition as well.

I’m just really excited to have resigned, and I can’t wait for Footy to start in a few weeks’ time.”

Head of Football, Mark Ellison, notes that Mamouzelos is poised to assume a more significant role in first grade in the upcoming seasons.

“Pete is a South Sydney junior who has worked hard to earn the position he’s in, with the opportunity to play more first grade in the coming seasons,” Mr. Ellison said. “He is eager to collaborate with one of the best hookers in our game, Damien Cook, as well as other seasoned players like Siliva Havili. Pete is the kind of player who dedicates himself to improving his game and learning about the dummy half role from both his teammates and coaches.

“We’ve witnessed his consistent improvement over the past few years as he worked his way up through the grades, and he is poised to play a more significant role in first grade in the coming seasons.
