According to reports, one of baseball’s most electrifying relievers has joined the Houston Astros. According to a report from Jeff Passan of ESPN on Friday afternoon, the Astros and left-handed reliever Josh Hader have reached an agreement on a five-year, $95 million contract. Hader’s contract, according to Passan, has no deferrals, making it the biggest reliever contract in history in terms of present-day value.
Hader, 29, of the Milwaukee Brewers and San Diego Padres, has been named to five All-Star teams. Throughout his career, he has saved 165 games with a 2.50 ERA, 648 strikeouts in 388 2/3 innings pitched. Throughout the last four seasons, Ryan Pressly, a reliever, has been the primary closer for Houston, an organization that made it to the ALCS last year before losing to the Texas Rangers. In 2023, he made 31 saves while having a 3.58 ERA.
The 2024 season will begin on March 28 when the Astros play the New York Yankees.
