A Newhall native becomes a part of the Los Angeles Dodgers following a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays.
Los Angeles is welcoming back Tyler Glasnow, a native of Newhall, who has joined the Dodgers in a trade with the Tampa Bay Rays. The team acquired Glasnow and outfielder Manny Margot in exchange for pitchers Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca. During a video conference held while he is still in Florida, Glasnow expressed his enthusiasm about returning to Southern California and playing for the Dodgers, describing it as the “best possible scenario.”
The Hart High School alum is currently in the process of relocating to the area. The Dodgers secured Glasnow’s presence for an extended period by signing him to a five-year, $136.5 million contract extension. In the upcoming season, Glasnow will join a Dodgers rotation that includes names like former All-Star Walker Buehler, Bobby Miller, Emmett Sheehan, and Ryan Yarbrough.
The team is awaiting decisions from Clayton Kershaw regarding his plans for 2024, while Shohei Ohtani is anticipated to return to pitching in 2025 after recovering from elbow surgery. The Dodgers faced challenges in their rotation in late 2023 due to injuries to Tony Gonsolin and Dustin May, as well as Julio Urías being removed after legal issues. At 30 years old, Glasnow, entering his ninth MLB season, concluded the 2023 regular season with a 10-7 record and a 3.53 ERA in 120 innings.
Entering his ninth MLB season in 2024, Manny Margot is anticipated to contribute valuable defensive support in the outfield for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Additionally, Margot brings a notable level of speed to the basepaths, evident from his performance in the 2023 regular season, where he recorded nine steals in 99 games.
