Ohio State’s Potential Quarterback Boost: Tracking Julian Sayin’s Transfer Portal Journey
The Ohio State Buckeyes may not be done with the transfer portal, and their sights are set on a significant addition—Julian Sayin, the No. 1 overall quarterback and five-star freshman signee for the Alabama Crimson Tide. Sayin recently announced his intention to enter the NCAA Transfer Portal, citing Nick Saban’s retirement as a key factor in his decision.
Reports from On3’s Pete Nakos indicate that Ohio State is the frontrunner to land Sayin, with an RPM forecast showing a 70% confidence level. The hiring of Bill O’Brien as the Buckeyes’ offensive coordinator is seen as a pivotal factor. O’Brien, formerly Sayin’s recruiter at Alabama, has a previous connection with the talented quarterback.
Despite the potential fit at USC, where the quarterback room has seen departures, including Malachi Nelson and Caleb Williams, Sayin seems inclined towards Ohio State. The Buckeyes’ quarterback room is already full, with Will Howard likely to start in 2024, given his experience and success.
However, if Sayin joins Ohio State, it could have a cascading impact on the quarterback room. Competition would arise, with five-star rookie Air Nolan in the mix, and potential shifts for Devin Brown or Lincoln Kienholz. Sayin, now ranked as the nation’s top quarterback and fifth overall player, appears to have a welcoming spot in Columbus if he chooses to make the move.
