the Red Sox are still in contact with two front-line starters Despite……

With hopes at an all-time low, the Boston Red Sox will begin spring training in less than a month.

To put Boston in the running for the playoffs, Red Sox chief baseball officer Craig Breslow might add one of the two impact starters available along with a reliable right-handed bat.

But the Red Sox executives talked about cutting payroll and punting on the 2024 campaign for nearly the whole of Winter Weekend. Breslow is apparently still contending to be one of the best starters available despite this.

The Boston Globe’s Peter Abraham said on Sunday that the Red Sox “did their best to tamp down expectations this weekend, but they’re still in contact with the top remaining free-agent starters.” “The question is whether or not they’re serious. It is true that the majority of supporters are furious. They might be thinking that costs will go down and that someone like Jordan Montgomery makes sense. Alternatively, they can be feigning it to say they tried.”

The length of time it has taken Blake Snell and Montgomery to sign this winter is just bizarre; it seems like neither player has gotten the contracts they are requesting.

Given the team’s need for innings and consistency, Snell is a less probable fit, but there’s a remote chance Red Sox owner John Henry will approve a deal with Montgomery.

The Red Sox ownership is not putting out any indications that they are attempting to contend this season, no matter how much they protest it. Having said that, I would suggest not getting too excited.
