Verstappen experiences a nightmare during a significant endurance competition.
While he gets ready for the 2024 Formula One season, Max Verstappen experienced a terrifying occurrence halfway through the simulation of the Daytona 24-hour endurance event.
Verstappen participated in the GTD class race on Saturday with Team Redline, competing alongside teammates Ola Steinbraten and Gianni Vecchio in one of the largest events on the simulation racing calendar.
Shortly before, the Dutchman participated in a ‘Real Racers Never Quit’ race at Daytona, likewise for Team Redline, but an early crash caused him to crawl home in eighth position.
And as he clashed with his team’s sister car, his bad luck in simulation racing persisted.
Verstappen makes a spin in the Daytona 24 race.
The three-time world champion, who was leading his class and had 12 hours and 50 minutes remaining in the race, had a terrifying run-in with another Team Redline car piloted by Josh Thompson.
Thompson seemed to slow down far more quickly than Verstappen anticipated, which caused him to collide with the rear of the vehicle and send the Dutchman spinning.
Verstappen was able to bounce back from the incident and lead his team to the GTD class championship.
On Tuesday, January 23, he is scheduled to make his return to simulation racing. He will race for the Real Racers Never Quit championship in Formula 3 cars at Silverstone before switching to Formula 4 cars for Mugello.
