Max Verstappen wins for the first time in 2024 and discusses his rivalry with…..
Max Verstappen has been enjoying some pretty nice reading from Sunday’s fast-paced F1 news digest.
Following his first triumph (of a sort) of 2024, the three-time World Champion talked about his friendship with Lewis Hamilton, the rival for the 2021 championship.
Without further ado, let’s get into today’s top stories.
Max Verstappen wins 2024’s first race.
Away from Formula 1, Max Verstappen has been enjoying more sim racing. Over the weekend, he won the GTD class in the iRacing 24 Hours of Daytona.
Alongside Gianni Vecchio and Ole Steinbraten, Verstappen was driving the #4 Team Redline GT3 vehicle around a virtual Daytona, where dozens of three-driver teams competed over the course of a whole 24-hour period.
Verstappen and his teammates had to navigate the race while nearly constantly being lapped because the GTD class had the slowest cars of the three on display, behind GTP and LMP2 in prototypes. Despite this, the three-time F1 World Champion and his teammates still won their 12-car category.
Maybe the first of many wins in 2024?
A Lewis Hamilton bond update is given by Max Verstappen.
When questioned about the current status of their rivalry, Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton responded, “Just normal guys,” when they were together in a private environment.
Verstappen has won 44 of the previous 66 races dating back to his first championship campaign in 2021, while Hamilton hasn’t triumphed since the Saudi Arabian round of same season.
After that night in Abu Dhabi more over two years ago, Verstappen was questioned about his friendship with Hamilton.
Eddie Jordan ignores Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton in a prime Formula One pairing
Eddie Jordan, the owner of a former Formula One team, feels that Fernando Alonso and Lewis Hamilton are too old to compete with Max Verstappen and has selected two youthful drivers as his ideal duo.
It was just this month when Hamilton turned 39, and in July, Alonso will be 43.
Jordan feels that the two would find it difficult to stay up with Verstappen at this point since the only people who can stop Max are Charles Leclerc and Lando Norris.
David Coulthard demands a return to the F1 tire battle
According to David Coulthard, the return of a second tire supplier to Formula One would naturally cause a “competitive shift” at some venues.
Since Bridgestone and Michelin quit Formula 1 at the conclusion of 2006, the “tyre wars” between them came to an end, and Pirelli has been the only tire supplier to the sport since 2011.
Coulthard asserted that a second supplier would improve the spectacle, with the tyres creating a level playing field on the road’s contact patch.

Laurent Mekies to replace Ferrari tech expert at Red Bull?
The Red Bull junior team is apparently keen in hiring Ferrari’s tech guru, thus he might be joining Laurent Mekies at AlphaTauri.
On the same day that Guenther Steiner’s departure was revealed earlier this month, Resta left Haas, and the engineer returned
Given his close familiarity with the team’s personnel, Ferrari recently referred to new AlphaTauri boss Mekies as “dangerous,” fearing that he might entice more people to join him from Maranello to Faenza.
