David Nofoaluma comments after Wests Tigers terminate contract, ” it’s a pity.”
The Wests Tigers have ended their association with David Nofoaluma, leading to speculation of interest from Super League clubs in the winger.
This marks a disappointing conclusion to Nofoaluma’s tenure with the Tigers, where the seasoned winger notched up 100 tries in 192 games for the Concord club.
Despite being loaned to the Melbourne Storm at the close of the 2022 NRL season, Nofoaluma reportedly received communication from Wests’ new head coach, Benji Marshall, indicating that he would not be featured in the first-grade lineup for the club. In response, Nofoaluma sought the intervention of the Rugby League Players’ Association (RLPA) and sought legal counsel on the matter.
The situation escalated when Nofoaluma declined to participate in Tigers’ training sessions, constituting a breach of contract. Subsequently, after a two-week dialogue involving Nofoaluma, Wests, and the RLPA, a second breach occurred. Reports from the Sydney Morning Herald suggest that Nofoaluma experienced a stomach problem last week and remained uncontactable for 48 hours.
In response to these developments, Wests Tigers issued a statement announcing the termination of Nofoaluma’s contract by mutual agreement, effective immediately. Interim CEO Shane Richardson expressed gratitude for Nofoaluma’s contributions to the club over the past decade, wishing him the best in his future endeavors.
Nofoaluma’s departure from Wests Tigers is likely to attract interest from Super League clubs, given his prolific try-scoring record and prowess as a strong ball carrier in defensive situations.
