“Ryan Day’s Recruiting Success and Finebaum’s Cautionary Words for Ohio State”

Ryan Day, the head coach of the Ohio State Buckeyes, has experienced remarkable success on the recruiting front in recent weeks, securing commitments from numerous top-tier prospects. Meanwhile, their longstanding rival, the Michigan Wolverines, have faced setbacks with the departure of their coach, Jim Harbaugh, to the NFL, and several players entering the draft. With these developments, the Buckeyes are poised to assert their dominance in the Big Ten conference once more. However, ESPN’s Paul Finebaum, a college football analyst, commends Day’s achievements while also delivering a sobering cautionary message.

Finebaum has publicly voiced his support for Day’s recent achievements. However, he also acknowledges the immense pressure on Day to secure victories in 2024 due to this endorsement. When questioned by analyst Dan Orlovsky on ESPN’s Get Up if Day warrants close scrutiny as “the new guy,” Finebaum affirmed, “Absolutely.” He added, “I’ll provide further commentary later if Ryan Day fails to triumph over Michigan.” Finebaum made these remarks in a separate interview.

“I understand his accomplishments, but given his popularity, he appears to be a risky investment on Wall Street. If he fails against Michigan’s new coach, whoever that may be, it will pose significant challenges for him.”
