Michigan Wolverines have lost another key staff

Under Jim Harbaugh, Jesse Minter guided the Wolverines to become one of the best defenses in the nation. Now, he is expected to join him with the Chargers.

It appears that Jim Harbaugh, the new head coach of the Chargers, has filled his first coordinator post.

Jesse Minter, the defensive coordinator for the Michigan Wolverines, is apparently leaving the university to take a position calling defense for Jim Harbaugh and the Chargers, according to the Maize & Blue Review, the Wolverines community for Rivals.com. One of the best defensive minds in college and professional football, Minter will now try to improve one of the poorest teams in the NFL over the previous three seasons.

 

Before the 2022 season, Minter assumed the role as defensive coordinator for Michigan following previous DC Mike Macdonald adopted a similar stance with the Ravens and John Harbaugh.

 

Minter contributed to the Wolverines’ 2023 national championship run, as they finished first in the country in terms of points allowed per game (15.3). Included in that were the sixth-ranked rushing defense (90.0) and the second-ranked pass defense (157.0). He managed to keep the Wolverines in the top 10 in terms of points allowed in 2022, with a 7.6 rating (seventh), but they were 20th in passing and eighth in rushing.

Given that multiple Michigan defensive players, like defensive tackle Kris Jenkins and defensive back Mike Sainristil, opted to enter the draft this year, don’t be shocked if the Chargers pursue some of these individuals when
