Max Scherzer considers his first surgery at the age of 39 a “badge of honor” and is targeting a return in July.
Max Scherzer underwent surgery in December to address a herniated disc in his lower back. Despite initially thinking his back pain, which arose during Game 3 of the World Series, was improving, he experienced nerve pain in his leg two weeks after the Texas Rangers’ championship win. Despite trying an epidural, the pain persisted, leading to a second epidural and ultimately the discovery of a herniated disc through an MRI.
For Scherzer, the surgery marked the first of his career, and at 39, he views it as a “badge of honor.” He remains positive about his recovery, emphasizing that he has experienced no complications six weeks post-surgery.
Scherzer, who anticipates returning to the Rangers’ roster around July, is currently focused on rebuilding muscle and managing the rehab process. Despite the setback, he maintains a positive outlook and is determined to navigate the challenges of rehabilitation.
