Connor McDavid Named NHL’s Second Star of the Week

The captain of the Oilers amassed four goals and four assists across three games, all resulting in victories, contributing significantly to Edmonton's franchise-record win streak, which now stands at 16 games.

Edmonton Oilers’ captain Connor McDavid has been named the NHL’s Second Star of the Week following his impressive performance, contributing eight points across three games – all resulting in victories for Edmonton.

McDavid commenced the week with a goal against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. He followed up with a stellar performance on Thursday against the Chicago Blackhawks, netting two goals and providing one assist. His remarkable week concluded with another outstanding display on Saturday versus the Nashville Predators, where he scored a goal and assisted three times.

Last season’s recipient of prestigious awards including the Art Ross, Rocket Richard, Ted Lindsay, and Hart, McDavid currently sits tied for fourth in league scoring with 67 points and ranks third in points per game with 1.56. Notably, since Nov. 20, McDavid has only been held off the scoresheet twice in 29 games, accumulating an impressive 54 points during that period.

The 27-year-old centerman is set to participate as one of the four captains at this week’s NHL All-Star festivities in Toronto. Furthermore, he will join 11 other players in Friday’s All-Star Skills competition, vying for a chance to secure the $1 million prize.

The Oilers are currently enjoying a franchise-record 16-game winning streak. Upon returning from the break, they will aim to match the NHL’s all-time mark of 17 consecutive victories when they face the Vegas Golden Knights on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Meanwhile, Nikita Kucherov of the Tampa Bay Lightning and Matthew Tkachuk of the Florida Panthers have been named the First and Third Stars of the Week, respectively.
