LeBron James admits he has thought about playing for the New York Knicks.
LeBron James appears to be sticking with the Los Angeles Lakers as the NBA trade deadline on February 8 approaches. However, given the Lakers’ recent troubles, that doesn’t mean the future Hall of Famer hasn’t considered playing for other clubs.
Is LeBron James going to join the New York Knicks in the Garden?
The Los Angeles Lakers are 3.5 games away from snatching up the eighth seed, which would be enough to escape the Play-In Tournament, as they head into today’s NBA games in ninth position in the Western Conference. LeBron James, 39, is not particularly interested in finishing off a season without the possibility of earning what would be his fifth NBA Championship, as one might anticipate.
However, James doesn’t sound like a guy who is eager to quit the Lakers—at least not in the middle of the campaign. But when the regular season is over? The basketball legend could have a different narrative to tell. James, after all, is in charge of his own fate thanks to a $51 million player option for the 2024–2025 campaign. He could easily become a free agent and sign with the team that offers him the best opportunity to succeed, or he may choose to go with the highest bidder.
The prospect of playing with his older son Bronny James, though, may persuade LeBron to choose a completely other course.
One of those journeys may even take him to play for the New York Knicks at the storied Madison Square Garden, which is said to be LeBron’s favorite basketball venue. James took a time to elaborate on what may be in store, given that his immediate future is very much in doubt.
However, LeBron delivered the night’s biggest message with a breathtaking phrase that will undoubtedly excite Knicks supporters about what lies ahead. James didn’t dismiss the prospect of playing for the Knicks when asked. Rather, it appeared like he encouraged it.
James is obviously excited about every chance he gets to play at the “Mecca of Basketball.” It remains to be seen if that possibility materializes, but given that the Knicks now rank among the top teams in the NBA, rumors about bringing in luminaries like LeBron James need to be taken more seriously than they previously were.
