The Bulldogs forward undergoes surgery…

Another member of the Bulldogs will be on temporary hiatus from the team.

Canterbury Bulldogs forward Ryan Sutton recently underwent knee surgery at the Prince of Wales Hospital in late January, aiming to recover from recurring injuries and make a return to the NRL setup this season. Although the club hasn’t officially specified the return timeline, NRL Physio indicated an expected 8-10 week rehabilitation process before he resumes playing.

Recruited from the Canberra Raiders last season, Sutton faced challenges, spending over a month in the NSW Cup before rejoining the NRL team. Despite a substantial $500,000 per season contract, reports surfaced at the end of the previous season suggesting he was allowed to leave the club, potentially heading back to the Super League in England.

The decision to grant permission was attributed to his struggle to adapt to the team’s defensive style, unfamiliar to the forward. Bulldogs General Manager of Football Phil Gould confirmed that development player Zac Montgomery will also be taking a break from rugby league in 2024, not being part of the club this season. Montgomery, a prop, contributed significantly in the NSW Cup last season with eight appearances, making 150 tackles, covering 458 total meters, and scoring two tries.
