There’s an agreement between the Twins and first baseman Carlos Santana.
Carlos Santana and the Minnesota Twins reached an agreement on Friday to a $5.25 million, one-year deal, adding an experienced bat to the team.
Since a physical inspection was still pending, a source with knowledge of the agreement confirmed the transfer to the AP under condition of anonymity.
Santana, who turns 38 in April, spent the previous season playing for Milwaukee and Pittsburgh, where he hit.240 with 86 RBIs, 23 home runs, and 146 games played. On July 27, the designated hitter/first baseman was dealt to the Brewers.
Santana’s arrival may help Minnesota make up for some of the offensive output it lost on Monday when it dealt second baseman Jorge Polanco to Seattle. In 80 games during the previous season, switch-hitter Polanco batted.255 with 14 home runs and 48 RBIs.
Seeking their fifth postseason appearance in eight years, the Twins want to return to the postseason. They were defeated by Houston in their AL Division Series after they had won the AL Central in 2023 and swept Toronto in the wild-card round.
At initially, Minnesota also had Jose Miranda and Alex Kirilloff, but their performance has been hindered by injuries and inconsistent play.
After making his Cleveland debut in 2010, Santana is now back in the AL Central thanks to this transfer. With his first big league team, he played in the majors for ten of his first eleven years.
Santana, who batted.281 with 34 home runs and a career-high 93 RBIs in 158 games, was selected to the AL All-Star team in 2019. In 2016, he also hit 34 home runs for Cleveland.
Santana, who is a player for Seattle, Kansas City, and Philadelphia, is a.242 hitter in 1,930 games with 301 home runs and 1,011 RBIs.
