What caused Novak Djokovic’s world ranking to change?
Novak Djokovic, the renowned tennis player from Serbia, will take a brief vacation following the scandal at the Australian Open. With up to 24 Grand Slam victories under his belt, the 36-year-old is frequently considered the best male tennis player in Open period history when it comes to singles competition.
Djokovic recently experienced a setback when competing in the Australian Open. He lost to Italy’s Jannik Sinner in the semifinals, dropping games 6-1, 6-2, 6-7, 6-3.
When the Belgrade native will return to the court has not been mentioned since that setback. It was stated on Djokovic’s official website that he will play in the Indian Wells tournament next. The website stated, “Djokovic’s next stop will be the BNP Paribas Open [Indian Wells] from March 6–17.”
Should that occur, it may affect Djokovic’s number one status in the ATP because other players will be competing and perhaps collecting valuable points.
The current world number one said following the Australian Open that he needs some time to decide when to return to the court.
“I want to get my thoughts straight. After that, I’ll move on and decide which tournaments to enter,” he remarked. “I promised myself that I would give it everything I had this year, with the Olympics and Slams taking precedence. We’ll see if anything changes; at this point in my life and profession, certain unexpected choices may be expected more than they were twenty years before.”
