Emma Raducanu opens up about her current feelings ‘regretting’.
Emma Raducanu has retracted her previous statement about regretting winning the 2021 US Open, emphasizing that she “would not trade” that unique accomplishment for anything else in the world.
In a historic achievement, the then-18-year-old Raducanu made tennis history by winning a Grand Slam as a qualifier, winning a total of 10 matches in straight sets at Flushing Meadows to clinch the 2021 US Open title.
Despite her remarkable success, Raducanu faced the downside of fame when she received heavy criticism and scrutiny following a dip in her performance. In a candid confession last June, Raducanu expressed regret about winning the US Open, stating, “Sometimes I think to myself I wish I’d never won the US Open, I wish that didn’t happen.”
However, reflecting on her current feelings about her US Open victory during the Abu Dhabi Open, Raducanu shared that she now wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. She acknowledged being caught up in the whirlwind aftermath of her win but expressed gratitude for her journey, especially following injuries and surgeries.
Throughout the 2022 season, Raducanu grappled with persistent injuries, prompting her to focus on strengthening her body during the offseason with the help of strength and conditioning coach Jez Green. Despite her efforts, Raducanu faced setbacks, including an ankle injury and recurring wrist issues, ultimately leading to three surgeries.
Despite initial disappointment and challenges, Raducanu found solace in the opportunity to reset and rediscover her passion for tennis during her recovery period. Now pain-free and eager to make the most of her time on the court, Raducanu remains focused on improving her game and aspires to achieve significant victories in the future.
With Raducanu’s renewed health and determination, many believe she has the potential to make a significant impact in Grand Slam tournaments if she stays injury-free and continues to develop her skills.
