This poses challenges for some teams, such as the Toronto Maple Leafs, who lack 2nd round picks for the next three years. Consequently, Calgary is reportedly demanding a 1st round pick from Toronto to secure Tanev.
It’s uncertain if Toronto was the frontrunner among the teams vying for Tanev’s acquisition, but if the Leafs are facing difficulties in making the trade work, there might be an opportunity for another club, including the Oilers.
