‘I’ve Made a Grave Error’: AB de Villiers Acknowledges Sharing ‘Inaccurate Information’ Regarding Virat Kohli
The unconfirmed reports suggesting that Virat Kohli may be absent for the remainder of the ongoing England Test series have sparked speculation regarding the Indian batting superstar’s absence. Initially named in India’s squad for the first two Tests of the five-match series, Kohli withdrew from consideration, citing personal reasons.
AB de Villiers previously indicated that Kohli’s absence may be due to the impending arrival of his second child, leading to assumptions about his reasons for missing the Tests.
“Yes, his second child is on the way. Yes, family time is important to him,” de Villiers stated on his YouTube channel. “If you are not true and genuine to yourself, you lose track of what you are here for. I think most people’s priority is family. You can’t judge Virat for that.”
However, De Villiers has since retracted his statement, admitting that he spread ‘false information’ about Kohli’s situation and emphasizing that nobody knows the exact circumstances surrounding his absence.
“Without a doubt, family takes precedence, as I mentioned on my YouTube show. However, I also admit to making a serious error by sharing false information that wasn’t accurate at all. The truth is, nobody knows what’s happening,” he told news agency IANS.
“All I can do is extend my well wishes to him. I believe everyone who follows Virat and appreciates his cricket should simply wish him the best, regardless of the reason for his break. I genuinely hope he returns stronger, better, healthier, and rejuvenated,” the former South Africa captain added.
Kohli is anticipated to make a return for the remaining three Tests of the series between India and England, which is currently tied at one-all. Nevertheless, the BCCI has not provided any updates on his availability, leading to various media reports suggesting that he might potentially miss the entire five-match series.
