Utah Jazz Trade Kelly Olynyk and Ochai Agbaji to Toronto Raptors for Kira Lewis, Otto Porter, and 2024 First-Round Pick
ESPN reports that the Utah Jazz have engaged in a trade, sending center Kelly Olynyk and guard Ochai Agbaji to the Toronto Raptors in exchange for Kira Lewis, Otto Porter, and a 2024 first-round pick. This transaction is part of a series of moves preceding Thursday’s NBA trade deadline.
The trade not only brings Olynyk back to his hometown but also marks his sixth NBA team. Previously, he had stints with the Detroit Pistons, where he signed a three-year, $37 million contract before the 2021-22 season. Despite being sidelined by a Grade II MCL injury for part of his time in Detroit, Olynyk managed to contribute significantly, averaging 9.1 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.8 assists in 40 games (one start).
One of the standout moments of his tenure with the Pistons occurred during a Feb. 27, 2022, matchup against the Charlotte Hornets, where Olynyk hit a clutch turnaround fadeaway jumper as time expired, helping secure a 127-126 overtime victory. He concluded the game with 20 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.
Before the start of the 2022 training camp, Olynyk and Saben Lee were traded by the Pistons to the Utah Jazz in exchange for three-point specialist Bojan Bogdanovic.
Drafted by the Dallas Mavericks as the No. 13 overall pick from Gonzaga, Olynyk’s NBA journey also includes stints with the Boston Celtics, Miami Heat, and Houston Rockets. Throughout his 11-year career, he has maintained averages of 10.2 points, shooting 48% from the field and 37% from beyond the arc, along with 5.2 rebounds.
