Canucks defenseman Zadorov is set to undergo a hearing regarding a high hit on Red Wings’ player Raymond.

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Nikita Zadorov’s consequences for an illegal check on Detroit Red Wings winger Lucas Raymond might extend beyond the major and match penalty he received during the game. Zadorov is scheduled for a hearing tonight with the Department of Player Safety to assess if additional measures are warranted.

There is no certainty that the league will impose a suspension on Zadorov. Although his check on Raymond occurred behind the play, initial impressions suggested he made contact with the Swede’s head using his elbow. However, upon further examination, it was revealed that Zadorov’s shoulder made contact with Raymond’s chin instead.

While Zadorov is known for his hard-hitting style, Raymond has gained a reputation for occasionally embellishing to draw the attention of officials. Earlier in the season, the Detroit star appeared to have exaggerated contact with a New York Rangers stick, leading to speculation about his on-ice antics.

If the league decides to suspend Zadorov, the Vancouver Canucks will need to find a replacement on the left side of their defense.

Since joining the team from the Calgary Flames, Zadorov has been averaging nearly 18 minutes of ice time per game in British Columbia. This absence would be particularly challenging as another left-handed defenseman, Carson Soucy, is currently sidelined with a hand injury, with his return potentially delayed until March.

After losing an overtime game to the Red Wings 4-3 on the road earlier today, the Canucks, who are currently leading the league, will aim to bounce back against the Washington Capitals tomorrow at 1 pm ET. The team will hope that Zadorov is available to play in the upcoming match.
