Ohio State Buckeyes Prepare for Spring Roster Adjustments Under Coach Ryan Day
During a press conference on Wednesday, Ryan Day announced his intention to experiment with Sonny Styles and Josh Fryar in various positions this spring.
Spring signals a period of transition for the Ohio State Buckeyes. In addition to their ongoing recruitment efforts to bolster the team for a potential national championship bid, Coach Ryan Day disclosed plans to refine the team’s roster. Day elaborated on the collaborative efforts with linebacker Sonny Styles to optimize his versatile skill set.
“We’ve had a lot of conversations with Sonny and he has a lot of flexibility to do a lot of different things, which is great,” Day said. “So as we get into spring, we’ll start to figure out exactly how those will all shake out. But when you see Sonny, he has the flexibility to do multiple different things.”
Day also addressed offensive lineman Josh Fryar’s potential shift from tackle to guard, emphasizing the team’s quest to identify the most effective lineup following the departure of Matthew Jones.
“We’re gonna take a look to see what the right combination will be on the right side now that we’ve lost (Matthew Jones),” Day said. “He’s gonna play tackle, he’s gonna play a little bit of guard and we’ll kind of see how that shakes out as the spring goes on.”
With preparations underway for the regular-season opener against the Akron Zips on August 31 at Ohio Stadium, Day and his coaching staff face a multitude of decisions to fine-tune the Buckeyes’ roster.
