Emma Raducanu, a rising tennis star, recently opened out about the early effect of her new coach and her big goals for 2024.

Emma Raducanu recently disclosed that her coach, Nick Cavaday, has already implemented some adjustments and modifications to her game. Following a series of coaching changes over the past two years, Raducanu opted for a familiar face by reuniting with her childhood coach, Cavaday, for the 2024 season. While Cavaday may not be a prominent figure on the Tour, his intimate knowledge of Raducanu and her playing style makes him a valuable asset.

After her early exit from the Australian Open, Raducanu returned to London and took a brief two-day break before returning to the practice court. Over the subsequent two weeks, Raducanu dedicated herself to rigorous training sessions alongside coach Cavaday, focusing on both refinement and innovation in her game.

At the Abu Dhabi Open, Raducanu resumed competition and secured a notable victory against Marie Bouzkova with a scoreline of 6-4, 6-1, before succumbing to Ons Jabeur in her subsequent match.

Reflecting on her progress, Raducanu expressed satisfaction with the tweaks made to her game following the Australian Open. She highlighted the positive outcome of their efforts in her initial match at the Abu Dhabi Open, emphasizing the encouragement derived from witnessing the fruits of their labor. Raducanu acknowledged the iterative nature of improvement, noting the cyclical process of learning and unlearning aspects of her game over time.

Raducanu emphasized that maintaining her physical well-being is a paramount objective for the current season, particularly after undergoing surgeries on both wrists and her right ankle in May. She expressed a determination to remain injury-free and to prioritize her health to ensure her sustained presence on the court. Additionally, Raducanu articulated a desire for improved consistency in her performance compared to previous seasons, aiming to deliver more stable and reliable results throughout the year.

“Injury prevention and overall health are top priorities for me this year, following my recent surgeries and recovery process. I’m focused on staying healthy, both physically and mentally, to be able to compete at my best,” Raducanu stated. “Furthermore, I aim to enhance my consistency on the court, striving to deliver more reliable performances and maintain a higher level of play throughout the season.”

On Saturday, it was announced that Raducanu had been granted a main draw wildcard entry into the Doha tournament.

In her opening match in Doha, Raducanu is set to face off against Anhelina Kalinina, who emerged victorious in their sole previous encounter at the 2022 Madrid tournament. Notably, that match took place on clay, which is considered Raducanu’s least favorable surface.

With Kalinina currently holding a 1-4 record in early 2024, Raducanu is likely to approach the match with confidence, viewing it as a favorable opportunity to secure a positive outcome against the Ukrainian player.
