Promotions and Signings Galore in NRL: Manly Lock’s Rise and Dragons’ Acquisitions

Following a commendable display in their trial match against South Sydney on Sunday, the Sea Eagles have included seasoned forward Nathan Brown in their Top 30 squad for 2024.

After winger Christian Tuipulotu’s recent release, the 30-year-old lock, previously on a train and trial deal, has earned a promotion and is now eligible for selection in Manly’s season opener in Las Vegas.

Coach Anthony Seibold commended the former Blues forward’s strong pre-season, stating, “I’ve admired his attitude; he’s determined to prove himself. He’s had two disappointing seasons, and he’s eager to demonstrate that he still belongs at this level.”

In other news, Manly has extended back-rower Ben Trbojevic’s contract for an additional three years, securing his services until the end of the 2027 season. Since his debut in 2021, the 22-year-old has appeared in 26 games for Manly, progressing through the Sea Eagles pathways program.

Meanwhile, the Roosters have inked a new three-year deal with Billy Smith, ensuring the dynamic center remains with the club until at least the end of 2027. Despite several injuries since his 2019 debut, the 24-year-old showcased a breakout season in 2023, playing 15 games and scoring four tries.

In a significant move, the Dragons have signed Sea Eagles winger Christian Tuipulotu on a two-year deal, following his release from Manly. Tuipulotu’s addition aims to bolster the Dragons’ backline, particularly after Corey Allan’s season-ending ACL injury.

Furthermore, England forward Thomas Burgess will return home at the season’s end after signing a three-year Super League contract with Huddersfield. Burgess, poised to become the Rabbitohs’ second-most-capped player this season, expressed his focus on securing another premiership with South Sydney before departing.

The Broncos have secured grand final hat-trick hero Ezra Mam on a five-year contract extension, keeping the 21-year-old with the club until the end of the 2029 season. Coach Kevin Walters praised Mam’s commitment and versatility, anticipating further growth in his game.

Lastly, the Dragons have acquired former Kiwi international Raymond Faitala-Mariner, who has been granted an immediate release from his contract with the Bulldogs. Faitala-Mariner joins the Dragons for the 2024 and 2025 seasons, bringing extensive first-grade experience and international representation to the team.
