Auburn safety aiming for increased responsibilities with Jets in 2024…

In the 2023 NFL regular season, New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood was heavily involved in special teams, ranking second in the league with 420 special-teams plays, just behind Cleveland Browns linebacker Matthew Adams. Sherwood has embraced his role on special teams, taking inspiration from Jets wide receiver Justin Hardee and punter Thomas Morstead, both known for their contributions in that phase of the game.

Sherwood also saw an increase in defensive snaps, playing a career-high 194 snaps and making three starts in 2023. Despite limited opportunities due to the presence of linebackers C.J. Mosley and Quincy Williams, Sherwood feels he made the most of his chances, showcasing his readiness and ability whenever called upon.

Mosley, a veteran and role model for Sherwood, played a significant role on the Jets’ defense, rarely leaving the field. Williams, who also played safety in college like Sherwood, had a standout season in 2023, earning the team’s Most Valuable Player Award and first-team All-Pro honors.

Looking ahead to 2024, Sherwood aims to be more consistent and make a significant impact similar to Williams. Despite starting his rookie season at linebacker and dealing with injuries, Sherwood is focused on proving himself and making a leap in his performance next season.
