What are the anticipated outcomes for the Blue Jays’ new City Connect debut?

In Dunedin, Florida, Blue Jays pitcher Chris Bassitt is eagerly anticipating the debut of the team’s new City Connect uniforms, set to be worn sometime this summer.

Blue Jays starter Chris Bassitt delivers a pitch in the first inning against the Braves at Rogers Centre in Toronto, Friday, May 12, 2023.

In a recent post, the seasoned right-hander humorously expressed his hope that the new uniforms would resemble the beloved black throwback jerseys from the team’s past, symbolizing Canada as a whole.

Major League Baseball announced on Tuesday a collaboration with apparel giant Nike, introducing the City Connect line for nine MLB teams, including the Blue Jays. While the team teased the announcement, details about the design of the alternate jerseys were not disclosed.

City Connect jerseys have varied among teams, with some featuring throwback designs and others incorporating elements specific to the city. For Toronto, options could include depicting landmarks like the CN Tower.

Reports suggest that the Blue Jays’ version of the City Connect uniforms will be revealed on May 6 and worn in a game for the first time on May 31.

While the black Blue Jays throwback jerseys may not have been universally popular, they have a fan in Bassitt.

Meanwhile, Bassitt will begin his official spring training work on Thursday as pitchers and catchers report to the Jays player development complex in Dunedin.
