What’s the deal with the Western Bulldogs over Tom Liberatore’s contract extension for the 2024 AFL season?

Western Bulldogs stalwart Tom Liberatore seems poised to extend his tenure at the club, with reports suggesting he’s on the verge of signing a one-year contract extension ahead of the 2024 AFL season.

Selected as a father-son pick in the 2010 AFL Draft, Liberatore, son of Brownlow medallist Tony Liberatore, has upheld the family tradition of gritty, ball-focused play in the Bulldogs’ colors, featuring in 216 games for the club.

As per News Corp reports, the 31-year-old is expected to meet with club officials in the coming week, with both parties eager to prolong their association for a 15th season.

Despite being a former club best and fairest winner and finishing in the top ranks several times, Liberatore has often played second fiddle to Marcus Bontempelli,

quietly going about his business on the field, averaging 25.2 disposals and 7.6 clearances per game over the last three seasons, with 31 goals to his credit.

Liberatore’s leadership role was further solidified this week with his appointment as vice-captain of the Bulldogs.

He and his teammates are scheduled to face Hawthorn twice in the preseason before kicking off their season against Melbourne at the MCG on Sunday, March 17.
