Breaking News:The Phillies have struck a deal with a Star from the Rockies.
According to Joel Sherman of the New York Post, the Philadelphia Phillies and outfielder David Dahl are reportedly finalizing a minor-league contract. Dahl, who debuted in the MLB with the Colorado Rockies in 2016 and was later named to the National League All-Star team in 2019, is set to join the Phillies pending completion of the deal.
Dahl will have an opportunity to earn a spot on the Phillies’ major league roster during spring training. Despite this opportunity, he has only appeared in four MLB games over the last two seasons. In 2023, Dahl played for the San Diego Padres, hitting .111 with a .556 OPS in nine plate appearances.
Looking at the Phillies’ outfield situation for the 2024 season, Brandon Marsh and Nick Castellanos are slated to start, with Johan Rojas and Christian Pache also expected to see playing time. Pache, in particular, could be poised for a breakout season given sufficient opportunities.
Additionally, the Phillies recently reached an agreement with utility player Whit Merrifield. Merrifield’s ability to play second base and the outfield provides further versatility to the roster, potentially placing him in the mix with Marsh, Castellanos, Rojas, and Pache.
