Updates regarding Triston Casas and the Boston Red Sox’s contract

Boston Red Sox’s first baseman Triston Casas has mentioned that he and the team have engaged in discussions regarding a contract extension, but as of now, there hasn’t been any offer that he finds “enticing.”

During a spring training interview on Sunday, Triston Casas, the star first baseman for the Boston Red Sox, revealed that talks about a contract extension have taken place, but nothing has stood out to him yet as particularly appealing.

According to Ian Browne of MLB.com, Casas specified what kind of offer would pique his interest.

Casas, a former first-round pick for the Red Sox, made his debut towards the end of the 2022 season. Although he had a slow start in 2023, he ended the season with impressive stats, batting .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs.

While the overall expectations for the Red Sox in 2024 are not particularly high, Casas is expected to perform exceptionally. The team plans to place him in the heart of their lineup alongside players like Rafael Devers, Masataka Yoshida, and Trevor Story.

If Casas reaches his full potential this year, the Red Sox could exceed expectations, especially offensively.

Regarding the potential extension for Casas, it’s unlikely to reach the level of deals like those of Julio Rodriguez or Bobby Witt Jr. However, a pre-arbitration agreement similar to the one signed by Wander Franco in 2021 (11 years, $182 million) could be a feasible comparison, particularly if it includes opt-outs that allow him to reach free agency sooner.
