Brad Crawford Highlights Azareye’h Thomas as Potential Breakout Star for Florida State in 2024

Brad Crawford of 247Sports recently unveiled a list of potential “breakout” players for the upcoming 2024 season, among whom is Florida State’s Azareye’h Thomas, highlighted for his role at cornerback.

Crawford notes that Thomas has often gone unrecognized for his contributions, despite being part of a talented secondary alongside standouts like Jared Verse and Patrick Payton, who are projected to be first-round picks in the 2024 draft. However, Crawford predicts that Thomas will emerge as a prominent figure for Florida State in the upcoming season.

“Despite the depth of talent on Florida State’s roster during their undefeated conference championship run, Azareye’h Thomas has often been overlooked, particularly due to his position in the shadow of a formidable pass rush led by Jared Verse and Patrick Payton,” Crawford stated. “Expected to take over Renardo Green’s role at outside corner after honing his skills in the dime package during his second year, Thomas brings a wealth of athleticism to the table and is poised to make a significant impact in Florida State’s secondary.”

Azareye’h Thomas #20 of the Florida State Seminoles

In his tenure at FSU, spanning two seasons thus far, Thomas has participated in 15 games, accumulating a total of 43 tackles, with 29 tackles accrued in the recent season. Additionally, in 2023, he boasted 4.5 tackles for loss, half a sack, 10 passes defended, and a fumble recovery.

Standing at 6 feet 2 inches and weighing 194 pounds, the junior hailing from Niceville, Florida, was ranked as a four-star recruit and 67th nationally by Rivals.

During his freshman campaign, Thomas showcased his talent in high-profile matchups against Clemson and Florida, securing his inaugural interception in the Seminoles’ dominant 45-3 victory over Miami.

Thomas and the Seminoles are slated to kick off their season with an early-season clash against Georgia Tech in Dublin, Ireland, during Week 0.
