Flory Bidunga, the top-rated recruit in the 2024 Kansas basketball signing class, emerges as a standout figure, boasting a 5-star status and recognition as a McDonald’s All-American. Hailing as one of the premier big men in his graduating year, Bidunga has garnered attention with his stellar performances during his senior year at Kokomo High School in Indiana.
In a recent showdown between Kokomo and Anderson, two of Indiana’s top-ranked high school basketball teams, Bidunga showcased his dominance on the court. Leading his Wildkats to victory, he delivered an impressive triple-double performance, tallying 17 points, 24 rebounds, and 10 blocks. The following day, Bidunga continued his stellar form, notching his 17th double-double of the season with 26 points and 10 rebounds against Tippecanoe Valley. Across 24 games, his season averages now stand at 18.3 points, 12.9 rebounds, 4.6 blocks, and 3.3 assists.
Renowned for his defensive prowess, Bidunga stands out as an exceptional shot-blocker in his class. He exhibits a keen understanding of defensive rotations and demonstrates versatility by venturing out to the perimeter when necessary. While his offensive skills are a work in progress, his improving jump shot and active presence on the offensive glass create numerous scoring opportunities, particularly for second-chance points. Bidunga’s contributions have propelled Kokomo to a 21-3 record on the season, winning 17 of their last 18 games, offering Kansas basketball enthusiasts a tantalizing preview of what awaits in the Jayhawks’ lineup next season.
With the potential return of Hunter Dickinson for the 2024-25 season, Bidunga may not immediately assume a full-time role upon joining the team. Nonetheless, his rapid adjustment to the college game could lead to a significant impact for the Jayhawks from his freshman year onwards.
