Hamilton Tiger-Cats Strengthen Defense with Key Additions in 2024 Free Agency

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have maintained a clear focus during the 2024 free agency period: bolstering their defense. Prior to free agency, Hamilton secured the services of CFL All-Star defensive back Jamal Peters, along with defensive linemen Brandon Barlow and Dwayne Hendrix. Additionally, they re-signed defensive lineman Mason Bennett and recently extended the contract of Jamal Davis II.

In a bid to further strengthen their defensive unit, particularly the defensive line, the Tiger-Cats have made a significant addition by signing American defensive end Nick Usher, as reported by 3 Down Nation. Usher, who played for both the Montreal Alouettes and the BC Lions during the 2023 season, showcased his defensive prowess with notable performances in limited appearances.

Standing at 6’4” and weighing 256 pounds, Usher, a native of Los Angeles, California, brings considerable size and experience to the Tiger-Cats’ roster. His CFL journey began in 2018 with the Edmonton, where he demonstrated his ability to make impactful plays on the field. Subsequently, Usher continued to make significant contributions, accumulating impressive defensive statistics over the years.

With a total of 62 games played, he has accumulated an impressive record of defensive tackles, quarterback sacks, and forced fumbles.

Before embarking on his professional football career, Usher honed his skills during his collegiate tenure at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). As a standout player for the Miners, he excelled as a pass rusher, leaving a lasting impact with his disruptive presence on the field.

Usher’s addition to the Tiger-Cats’ defense adds depth and experience, further solidifying their aspirations for defensive dominance in the upcoming season.
